Amazing Live

Thanks to everyone who came to November’s Amazing Live!

Our monthly Bull & Gate showcase was Amazing!

Once again team Amazing and the lovely folk at Club Fandango pulled together a great line-up including The Din, Waylayers, Alphabet Backwards, and Jumping Ships.

If you weren’t at November’s Amazing Live then you missed this…

Alphabet Backwards at Amazing Live

The third show in the Amazing Live series was undoubtedly our best-attended gig to date, with a great line-up of bands all pulling some superb performances out of the bag.

With an accident in White City resulting in the closure of the A40 on Thursday evening, Oxford band and opening act Alphabet Backwards were caught up in huge tailbacks on the main route to London. In the end, despite only two out of their five bandmembers making it to the venue in time to kick off the proceedings, they performed superbly as a boy-girl duo, with James and Steph treating the crowd to some stripped-back renditions of the likes of ‘Taller’, ‘80s Pop Video’ and ‘Ambulance’ amongst others.

They were followed on stage by Waylayers, who drew a huge crowd with their stadium-ready indie anthems.

Waylayers at Amazing Live

Having put up a massive, glowing ‘W’ over the Amazing Radio banner at the back of stage, they laid down marker after marker with their recently-penned armoury of songs. ‘Like We Used To’ and ‘SOS (Leave Alone)’ were the highlights of a very well-received set from the Londoners.

Even though Waylayers were a tough act to follow, The Din followed them with admirable conviction and confidence, with their array of flamenco-tinged foot-stompers attracting tons of people back into the room from the bar outside. There was also plenty of evidence to support the theory that Din singer Nick Grimes might be one of the most accomplished guitarists currently plying his trade in the capital. Stunning work from start to finish.

Headliners Jumping Ships have already carved out a reputation for being one of Brighton’s finest live bands, and the lads didn’t disappoint this time around either. Playing a brilliant mix of songs new and old, the Alcopop signees tore the Bull & Gate a new one, with an awesome fusion of tight harmonies and heavy-ass riffs, with a level of intensity not seen by Team Amazing since the days when Hundred Reasons and Million Dead ruled supreme in these rock-laden waters.

All in all, a great night was had. Roll on the next one – Thursday 15th December at The Bull & Gate.
