Just after 6.10pm tonight the second test transmission started to go out on DAB. We’ve inserted a lot of new tunes, many of which were uploaded this week, since we went on air on Monday. I love the idea that only a few days ago some unsigned musicians who would never have dreamed of getting on national radio suddenly are.
Again I’m blown away by the diversity and quality of what people are uploading to amazingtunes.com. We’ve also added some additional explanatory links, for example on how the interactivity will work; we’ve said that there’s a web feed live now; we’ve included some new station announcements from new people we bumped into in the streets (!); and we’ve included some of the Blog feedback. I wasn’t sure about this, it feels a bit like blowing our own trumpet, but that’s what people have been saying, and it’s brilliant to see how many of you immediately got what we’re doing – and like the concept. So we decided it was all part of the democratic approach we’re trying to take. Hopefully by sharing it, more people will get the message – and because it’s not us saying it, they’ll realise this really is about user control.
Oh yeah, and there’s a small joke relating to the furore about Birdsong Radio. (Next week, we’ll upload a long Birdsong loop to amazingtunes.com, all download proceeds to the RSPB. Feels like the least we can do).

I am just wondering … is it possible to make the sistem to choose tunes to be played on radio as simple as a button “Add to amazingradio…” ? Or something like that.

The new songs are sounding great! I wondered how long the playlist runs for, so I can let people know when my song is going to be on next?
Hi Mike, The current loop is about five and a half hours. The playlist will be listed online some time this weekend, so you’ll be able to work out where it comes more easily. Thanks for uploading. PC

Turned on my radio this morning looking for Birdsong, but after initially being disappointed (no, I can’t figure out why either) I now find that I can’t stop listening to all this amazing stuff. Brilliant idea, thank you very much! I just wish I could match the tunes to the track names on the site so I could buy some of them.
So bye-bye, with sadness, to Birdsong, but what has replaced it is so much better. I really hope it becomes the success it deserves to be.

Phil, Not sure, to be honest. My assumption is we’ll have a playlist chosen by the listeners, and change it as often as the online responses tell us to. But we’ll make all decisions like this controlled by the audience. What would you prefer? PC

Just a note to say the interweb stream running at a modest 83 kbps/22hz sounds just fine and certainly no problems regarding bufferings/drops outs. A check on my Internet radio (Logik 100) showed a stream of 108 kbps and again no problems.

I was amazed (ack, pun!) to hear your transmission on DAB instead of Birdsong but really loved what I heard.Have heard some great songs on the playlist and was delighted to find the listing so I can go and buy them for my mp3 (which isn’t getting much use at the moment thanks to my wife buying me a pocket DAB radio).
I’m pleased that I can receive the transmission both at home and at work. Will there be a change in frequency when your ‘test’ phase is over? I do find that some local stations are not always available in both of my two listening areas (only 22 miles apart) but I’m hoping that you’ll have more of a broader coverage similar to the one you currently enjoy on the Test band.

By the way… How about to make some special tags like “morning”,”eavning”,”night” to mark for example perfered play time if tune it is on radio… Or something like mood tags “happy”, “depressed” etc. and just ask every user after a login to set his mood , and make palylist depended on avarage mood…
