More is Less

Here’s a tip to maximise how much of your money goes to the artist.

When you buy an ethical download, we have to deduct VAT and the cost of the transaction.  70% of what’s left goes to the musician(s) whose song you liked.  We don’t take any deductions of any kind to cover our costs.  We’re not a record label :-)

But if you only ever buy one track at a time, the transaction cost is proportionately higher.  If you bought one song one day, and another the next, it would be more expensive than buying two songs in one transaction.  And so on.  The sweet spot starts to come when you buy eight songs in one transaction. Happily,  amazingtunes.com remembers what you put in the cart, so you can go away and come back again, until you get past 8 songs.  The person I love most so far bought 25 songs in one sitting.  That’s even better.

That’s why, at the moment, I have four songs sitting in my cart.  When I get past eight, I’ll make the payment and do the download.  (And yes – I do pay for them myself, by the way!).  So more of my cash will go to the deserving musicians who wrote and recorded the songs, less to Visa or Mastercard or some bank.  I really hope you’ll consider doing the same.

ps coming soon – mobile phone payments, Paypal, and other things designed to make it easier and simpler to support artists with an ethical download.

he he, that was getting suspiciously into “you should buy more tracks, it’s better that way, honest!” territory, but gotta love an organisation that encourages users to not spend money until they’ve got all they want. Just one more reason to love Amazing.

Thanks Owen! I’ll keep trying to think of more! PC

  3. How about an amazing widget which shows either the artists tracks or what’s playing now that we can add to our own website? http://www.ukjay.co.uk

Good ideas James, we’re planning a number of widgets to do stuff like that (and we have a Big Meeting this afternoon to plan some resources, after which I should be able to give an idea of when they’ll be there). Mind you, if anyone wants to make their own, to share with the commonwealth of Amazing Radio listeners, that would be cool ;-) PC

    Hey Paul,

Simple idea but may give the bands and artists you play more coverage, what about broadcasting interviews with the bands and artists. Get the story behind the music and the bands, will help gain more of a connection with the band’s music.

Great idea, great minds – we commissioned some interviews last week! Keep the ideas coming please, thanks, PC

Have some songs been taken off the playlist?

Hi Lee – no, none, in fact we’re still adding more; although we think the playout system is doing some remaining strange things which causes some songs not to be played as often as they should be. We’re investigating. This is about the last remaining bug to iron out before we end the test transmissions by the way. PC

  11. If I have to hear anymore of the test transmissions I fear I will have to be taken away to the funny farm!
Come on Paul Go for it GET IN! Jay :-)

We’ve been waiting to iron out a few remaining playout issues – if it’s annoying hearing test transmissions imagine how much worse it would be if we took to wraps off and everything fell over! – but we’re almost there and we’ll ‘go for it’ on Monday 20th July at 0800. Yay. PC

  17. I would like to be able to add tunes to a playlist I have already built, instead of having to build from sratch each time if I find another song I want to add.
Also a playlist builder with some way of adding a DJ intro (or whatever) to the playlist would be cool! Jay

Thanks Jay, we’re already working on both of those. I’d like it to be possible for DJs to upload links and nominate which tracks to precede and follow therm, and then auto-assemble a programme. I think that would be cool – and also very useful to find new presenters, as we could then ask the audience to comment on their programme online. PC
