Test TX 3 – on the air

Test Transmission 3 is now live.  Once again, it includes new tunes uploaded to amazingtunes.com during the past few days.  And the playlist is already online here, so you can find the songs you like more easily.

We made TX3  sound a bit different from test TX2.  When I listened back to that, I thought we’d put too much speech in (especially too much of me), and that this was getting in the way of the music.  So this time, we’ve stripped it back, with more focus on the music and fewer announcements.  Please let me know how it feels, we need to gauge where you want the line to be between music and explanation, especially in the early days.

Meanwhile the Big Clever Computer that will do the ‘proper’ playout is all built and tested and we’re just sorting out minor technical issues like the best way to connect it to the transmitter so nobody nicks it and it doesn’t catch fire.

So we hope this will be the last Test TX and we’ll be able to schedule and vary the output properly, and make the scrolling text work, from next week.  Definitely,  No question. We hope.

Thanks again for listening, for all your feedback .. .and for supporting the Amazing artists whose tunes you hear.  It’s been overwhelming.  And if you’ve not yet bought an ethical download from amazingtunes.com – do it now! PC

Have you got any idea when the test transmissions will end and the radio station will become interactive?

Once again I think that this radio station is GREAT and I REALLY REALLY hope that it gets on air full time.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK WITH THIS RADIO STATION

Thanks so much Paul! We might be able to stop the tests and do everything properly next week (to me, the most important bit of ‘properly’ means getting the scrolling text working, so you can connect the songs you love to the artist, more easily). It depends on a lot of technical stuff which we’re grinding on through. If not next week, we should be ok within a fortnight, whatever happens. PC

I would buy an ethical download. However, on the playlist, there are not buy buttons next to each track, and I cannot find a buy button on the pages of songs I wish to buy. I think it would be a good idea to put the buy button after the play option on each track’s page, and after each result on search pages.

Good suggestions, thanks. We’re looking at how we improve integration between Amazing Radio and amazingtunes.com this morning. The launch of Amazing Radio happened so fast, we have some catching up to do, to be honest. It’s complicated because we have amazingtunes.com users all over the world, and Amazing Radio is currently only on the air in the UK – but we love a challenge! All suggestions on how to make it easier to buy an ethical download gratefully received. PC

Just one criticism – Could you announce the songs as they are playing either verbally or on the DAB rolling text. How can I know which songs to download if I don’t know the title or artist.

Hi, thanks, as we’ve said on various Blogs and on the air, it’s not currently available because we launched test transmissions in such a hurry. (3 days’ notice, to be precise). We’re working hard to do it as soon as possible – and very sorry for the inconvenience. In the meantime, you can find the current playlist here. PC
