Will Simpson

Currently a student at Teesside University studying Psychology, I write poetry as a compliment to writing songs, my inspiration can come from anywhere depending on the mood, recently I’ve been reading a lot of Kahlil Gibran and find his poetry magically inspiring.

If anyone would like to read more of my poetry you can find it here. Hope you enjoy it.

Paul Askew

paul askew

Hello. My name’s Paul Askew. I’m a poet from Oxford. I’ve been writing bits and pieces for a while now, but only really started properly writing poetry this year.

My main influence has been Ivor Cutler. His poems, songs and scenes showed me a different way of writing and thinking about poetry, that it didn’t all have to be flowery ’smoke and mirrors’ hiding behind layers of impenetrable metaphor. It could be something you have fun with too.

You can read more of my stuff here.

Amanda Baker

amanda baker

Amanda Baker is a North East based performance poet who blasted onto the spoken word circuit in Nov 2009 is heading for the Edinburgh fringe this summer. Is anyone else busking Multi-Character Based Comedy Performance Poetry at the Edinburgh Fringe?

No.

In fact it’s uncertain whether anyone does anything quite like truly unique Performance Poet Amanda Baker.

Her popular piece about Soap Operas gives a breathtaking tour of five regional accents and even more characters, in a lampoon of the nonsense that is the TV soap opera. There is an African journalist’s view of British society, Western smugness and even the joys of the Bigg Market and to verbally ‘tuck you in’ a bit of Caribbean Snail Love plus much more that you never knew could happen even in performance poetry.

With no venue – no PR – no roadies – no toadies – no funds – no train ticket (yet) – Amanda Baker is booked in for the first week of the Edinburgh Fringe festival to busk on Edinburgh’s famous High Street. Not juggling with fire but with a half hour of satirical comedy performance poetry from her one woman show Random Rambling. 11th August to 14th August (incl) 1.45 Alcove 1. High street – The Fringe.

Christine Ann Clatworthy

christine ann clatworthy

Christine Ann Clatworthy, born in London, now lives in Bedfordshire and poetry, ever her passion, she considers as much a part of life as breathing. “Poetry should not mean, but be” is her philosophy. Her first published collection of poetry, In Two Minds, raised over two thousand pounds for the hospice where her daughter lost a long-fought battle against cancer.

With her second book, To Glimpse a Butterfly, to be released at the end of August, people sometimes say there must come a time when she will run out of ideas. But for Christine, life is a journey and each new day is another story begging to be told. She showcases her new work on ABC Tales.com and individual audio tracks available for download via amazingtunes.com. Her books are available from amazon.co.uk and most major on-line booksellers as well as many high street book retailers.
