The Ship takes on the K-Train

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Each week Amazing Radio‘s resident rock and roll man Kevin ‘K-Train’ Read receives a hypothetical glove slap from a would be challenger.

This challenge is to see if the K-Train can ‘out rock’ their most hardcore experiences, be it onstage, in an audience, or even on a ferry!

This week’s challenger is Gav Gates, the black drum skinning drummer of Boy Jumps Ship, who’ll be live in session on The Afternoon Show this Friday. Gav couldn’t resist laying down the rock and roll gauntlet to Kev, having heard many a rumour about the Operations Manager’s rock and roll credentials.

Gav Gates - not to be confused with Gareth...

Drummer Gav’s been playing with Boy Jumps Ship for over a year now, giving him the opportunity to tour his way across the UK and mainland Europe whilst drummer K-Train’s performed an impromptu set to seasick passengers on a ferry to Amsterdam so we’re predicting a very close war is ready to rage this afternoon!

If you want to see who wins the rock and roll title this afternoon, make sure you tune into The Afternoon Show from 3pm today, on Amazing Radio.

Rock and Roll Wednesday

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Wednesdays are rock and roll on Amazing Radio, as The Afternoon Show brings you Are You More Rock and Roll than Kevin Read?

This week we’ve got a professional in to take on the K-Train, in the shape of Amazing Rock Show host Aaron Phillips.

Aaron Phillips: Definitely not a baby face

Aaron Phillips: Definitely not a baby face

Aaron isn’t just a national radio presenter, but also an experienced drummer in hardcore a rock band. He’s confident that his story is one of the toughest yet, but will it be enough to floor our K-Train?

Kevin, despite Aaron’s rock man status, isn’t too concerned. Having fought off previous competitors with a mere metaphorical flick of his story telling fingers, he’s ready and raring for the forthcoming showdown.

To find out who wins the rock and roll battle this week tune into The Afternoon Show, today from 3pm, on Amazing Radio.

Behind the scenes at Amazing Towers

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

We like to think of ourselves as ‘people people’ at Amazing Radio – that’s why we wanted to tell you about who we are and how we operate. This is a democracy after all!

For the next of our Behind the scenes at Amazing Towers posts, we spoke to Operations Manager and all round hero Kevin ‘K-Train’ Read.

Hello! Who are you?

Hello, I’m Kevin Read.

If this were a dating ad I’d also write GSOH NS M. I’m an Aries. I play drums and guitar (not at the same time) and I’m fond of computers, music, movies and traveling.

(Since I’m married I should explain that this isn’t a dating ad. I have a wonderful wife called Karen who has put up with me for 10 years. She’s awesome and rocks way harder than me!)

What’s your ‘title’ and what do you do?
I’m Operations Manager for Amazing. This means I manage the operation, the team, the building and a lot more besides.

The K Train on his travels

The K Train on his travels

What’s the best thing about your job?
I work with great people who are passionate about what they do. It just so happens that what they do is so unbelievably cool that it makes my day.

What’s the best thing about Amazing Radio?
The music. There’d be little point if it wasn’t great, but it’s amazing. I’m constantly surprised by what people can do with varying budgets and boundless talent. Just because you haven’t heard of the band, doesn’t mean they don’t make great music. I think that if more people discovered what they loved rather than wait to be fed it then the world would be a better, more musically diverse place. As it is, people still need help (even Columbus needed a chart and a compass). That’s where Amazing Radio fits in – it helps people discover music they’re about to love.

Where do you see yourself in ten years time?

I see myself at awards ceremonies, making speeches for people who are too busy doing ground breaking work to attend.

Cheers Kevin! Keep an eye on our blog for future updates from more of the Amazing gang. You can also hear Kevin guest star on The Afternoon Show every Wednesday from 3pm.

Little Lord Brantleboy takes the Train

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

It’s time for rock school on Amazing Radio! Tune into The Afternoon Show for you lesson in how to rock and roll with Are you more rock and roll than Kevin Read?

This week Amazing Live‘s Rich Brant is taking on the K-Train challenge, and he’s nervous. Not that he’d admit he’s nervous of course, but you can quite clearly see it in his eyes…

Rich Brant

Rich Brant

Rich claims that, despite his shifty eyes, he’s actually ‘big on the continent’, having previous performed on air duties as a radio presenter in Luxembourg. This role required Rich to socialize with both celebrity and rock star, and therefore Rich feels that he is more than qualified to cite his own rock and roll credentials.

Kev, meanwhile, has had great fun compiling a list of ‘comedy aliases’ for Little Lord Brantleboy. He’s fully aware that Emily Brante is going to pull out a continental back story and is digging deep into his personal rock history to bring on the defeat.

The K Train gets 'listy'

The K Train gets 'listy'

We’re pretty hopeful for Brant – quite possibly because no one else will take him seriously. (Just look at that picture of innocence!) But you never know, he might surprise us. After all, his girlfriend has family from Darlington, and apparently that means something. We’re not sure what…

If you’re also wondering who won the mighty rock off between Amazing Breakfast‘s  Georgie Rogers and Kevin Read last week, we can now reveal that Georgie took the crown with an astonishing 100% of the vote! Now that’s hardcore!

Catch Mister Brantybombastic laying down the rock and roll gauntlet from 3pm today, on Amazing Radio.

The Afternoon Show presents… Burtt verses Read!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Every week The Afternoon Show welcomes a new challenger who thinks that they can out rock the K-Train. So far no one has, but will today’s challenger fare better?

On today’s edition of The Afternoon Show, the team welcomes James Burtt of the Greg and Burtt Show to the studio. He thinks he can spin a wilder yarn than Amazing Towers’ Kevin ‘K-Train’ Read, but can he really?

The Burttybombastinio in action!

Before he became a presenter on national radio, James Burtt travelled the world as a member of top tribute act Boyz Aloud. This presented many a ‘rock’ experience including one of the tales he’ll be parting with today, but will  it be more jam roll than rock and roll? Tune in to find out!

You can hear our wannabe rock stars do battle today from 3-6pm on Amazing Radio. If you think you should be next to take on the K-Train, get in touch!

J.W takes on the K Train!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

He’s been in training for at least 20 minutes, and now J.W (also known as amazingtunes.com Head of Music John Williams) is feeling fit, fine and up for the challenge of taking on the K-Train (the mysterious Amazing Media Operations Manager Kevin Read) from 3pm on The Afternoon Show.

John Williams is a music industry legend, having worked with top artists such as The Proclaimers, Simple Minds and Paul Weller  as well as in A&R roles for major labels Chrysalis, Polydor and Sanctuary.

He’s very much up for the challenge of taking on the mighty K-Train and has prepared a story about the time he met his former idol Booker T, of Booker T. and the M.G’s.

However optimistic J.W may be, let us not forget that he’s got a tough competitor in the form of major hardcore heavyweight tale-spinner Kevin ‘K-Train’ Read.

The K-Train (also affectionately know as the K-Bomb for his ability to blast competitors’ stories to pathetic looking pieces) has already seen off a tough challenge from Amazing Media‘s Paul Campbell, and some not so tough competiton from Amazing Radio presenter and producer Frankie Ward.

If you think you’re hard enough to survive a trip on the K-Train then get in touch! Email us with your rock and roll story and, before you know it, you could be facing it off with the hardman himself!

Hear J.W’s rock and roll face off with the K-Train between 3 and 6pm tonight on The Afternoon Show, right here on Amazing Radio.
